Film Project Genre Research- Insidious

The first film opening I watched was from the horror movie Insidious. In the opening of this movie, the first shot is an insert of a ceiling light and moves steadily down to a lower view and begins to zoom in on a boy sleeping in his bed. It then appears to move on a dolly across the room, keeping the same angle and eventually panning to the hallway as they exit the bedroom (appearing to be filmed using a Steadicam.) The camera then moves through the house at a slow rate, entering the kitchen and panning to a midshot of a scary face in a room which resembles a closet. The camera then gets closer and closer to the scary face until it is a close up of the face. Then, the scene fades to black and is over. The scene begins with an eerie, quiet music and as it gets closer to the face, the music becomes louder and more high pitch, like an intense violin. Unlike other film openings, there are no job titles listed in the scene. Insidious had a final budget of 1.5 million dollars. This is nothing compared to the 97 million dollars it made internationally. These profits were welled earned as in 2011, they won the Fright Meter Award for Best Horror Movie.
